Using Archaeology to Investigate Your Own History

A student at Virginia Commonwealth University discovers her own heritage as she studies anthropology. Here she is in front of the George Gilmore family cabin, a cabin belonging to a family formerly enslaved by James Madison that I have had the pleasure of touring myself during my time at Montpelier. What an awesome research experience and she actually helped with the excavations going on around the area as well! I’m excited to see another black female archaeologist in training so I’m sharing this news on my site.
